Highlands County

Highlands County, Florida is located in Southwest Florida and is part of the 10th Judicial Circuit.  Law enforcement in Highlands County issued close to 14,000 moving violations last year.  Most of these citations were issued for unlawful speed.  Aside from speeding tickets, law enforcement in Highlands County issued thousands of tickets for running red lights and stop signs.  The Florida Highway Patrol investigated hundreds of accidents in Highlands County last year issuing close to 333 careless driving tickets.

Highlands County has several local police departments including Avon Park, Lake Placid, and Sebring.  Several of these police departments are extremely proactive and issued thousands of citations last year.  Aside from civil citations, police officers in Highlands County issued over 2,300 criminal citations last year.  Most of these criminal violations were issued to individuals driving while license suspended or no valid driver's license.  Aside from these violations, hundreds of people were charged with driving under the influence (DUI), reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident.

There is one County Court Judge in Highlands County, Anthony Ritenour.   There are three Circuit Court Judges, Olin Shinholser, Peter Estrada, Ernest Jones, and Angela Cowden.
