Okeechobee County is located in the middle of Florida and has a population of approximately 40,000 people. The county seat is Okeechobee and that is the location of the courthouse. Okeechobee county is part of Florida's 19th Judicial Circuit, which encompasses Indian River, Saint Lucie, and Martin Counties. Judge Jerald Bryant is the only county court Judge in Okeechobee County. There are two Circuit Court Judges, Lawrence Mirman and F. Shields McManus.
The primary law enforcement agency in Okeechobee county is the sheriffs office and they were responsible for issuing just shy of 2,000 moving violations last year. Most of those infractions were for unlawful speed. In total, almost 4,000 tickets were issued by all law enforcement officers. In addition to civil infractions, law enforcement issued over 1300 criminal violations. Most of these violations were for driving while license suspended according to Florida statute 322.34 or driving without a valid Florida driver's license in violation of Florida statute 322.03. In addition law enforcement arrested 115 people for DUI and another 39 for reckless driving.
