Sumter County Traffic Ticket Attorneys

Sumter County, Florida is located in central Florida north of Tampa.  The latest population results put the population at just shy of 75,000.   The county seat is Bushnell and the largest city within the county is a called Wildwood.  Sumter County is part of Florida's Fifth Judicial Circuit which comprises Citrus, Hernando, Lake and Marion Counties.

For a relatively small county, Sumter County law enforcement is extremely proactive.  Last year they issued over 13,000 moving violations to motorists in the county.  Most of these violations, over 10,000, were speeding tickets.   The Sumter County Sheriffs Office and local Florida Highway Patrol both have extremely aggressive traffic enforcement.  The Florida Highway Patrol routinely uses a fixed wing Cessna aircraft on Interstate 75 to thwart speeding motorists and aggressive drivers.  The FHP pilot in the air flies the plane and at the same time uses a stop watch to clock motorists as they travel across a 1/4 mile distance.  The pilot then radios to trooper on the ground who people cars over and issue them tickets. This practice of using airplanes to clock motorists has been heavily used by FHP for years and is used on a daily basis throughout the State of Florida.  When fighting a speeding ticket that was issued in this method, both the trooper in the air and the stopping trooper need to appear to establish all the necessary elements of the charge.

Aside from moving infractions, law enforcement in Sumter County, Florida issued over 1,500 criminal citations last year.  Most of these violations were issued for no valid driver's license in violation of Florida Statute 322.03 and driving while license suspended in violation of Florida Statute 322.34.  Aside from these two traffic criminal charges, leaving the scene of an accident in violation of Florida Statute 316.061 was cited over 40 times last year to Sumter County motorists.
