Union County

Union County, Florida is tucked in between Bradford and Baker in North Central Florida.  The counties population is approximately 15,000 and the county seat is located in Lake Butler.  Given the size of Union County, there are no local police departments.  All law enforcement activity is conducated by the Union County Sheriffs Office and the Florida Highway Patrol.   Union County, Florida is located within Troop G which has its headquarters in Duval County.

Union County is part of Florida's Eighth Judicial Circuit which includes Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Gilchrist, and Levy counties.  Union County, Florida has one county court Judge, David Reiman.  One Circuit Judge rotates between Alachua and Union county and oftentimes senior Judges will be called up to listen to cases or try cases in front of a Jury.

Last year law enforcement in Union County, Florida issued over 800 moving violations to motorists.  Most of those violations were written by the Florida Highway Patrol and were for unlawful speed.  There were almost 100 red light and careless driving citations issued last year.

Because of its size, Union County law enforcement only issued 135 criminal citations last year.  In total, there were only 22 DUI arrests the entire year.  Not unlike other small counties, most of the criminal traffic violations were written for individuals driving while their license was suspended in violation of Florida statute 322.34 or driving without a valid driver's license in violation of Florida statute 322.03.
