Washington County

Washington County, Florida is located in the Florida panhandle.  The count is relatively small, with a total population of just over 20,000.  Like other Florida counties in the panhandle, it is an entirely dry county which explains why there were a total of 64 DUI arrests last year.  Washington County is part of Florida's fourteenth Judicial Circuit which includes Bay, Calhoun, Holmes, Gulf, and Jackson Counties.  The Honorable Colby Peel is the only sitting county court Judge in the Washington County, Florida.  He is responsible for all misdemeanor and traffic ticket cases.

According to recent statistics provided by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, there were over 6,000 moving violations issued in Washington County last year.  That means statistically that almost one out of three county motorists were cited for some type of moving violation last year.  That statistic is not a suprise since it is estimated that almost 15 percent of all traffic tickets in the county are generated from the State of Florida.  Aside from traffic infractions, there were over 500 criminal citations issued by Washington County, Florida law enforcement last year.  Most of those citations were for individuals charged with no valid driver's license in violation of Florida statute 322.03 or driving while license suspended in violation of Florida Statute 322.34.
