A Melbourne police officer who had been disciplined more than 20 times in his 20-year career was fired after his January arrest of falsifying Florida traffic tickets. A Gainesville man has been charged with drunk driving, driving without a license in a stolen car and a litany of other crimes following a police chase. Steve Doby was booked into the Alachua County Jail Sunday morning and charged with DUI, driving without a license, grand theft auto, resisting arrest and fleeing or attempting to elude police.

According to police reports published in The Gainesville Sun, Doby was speeding early Sunday morning when officers tried to pull him over. The 37-year-old failed to stop for the officers and then swerved across the road during the chase. He eventually abandoned the stolen car at a dead end and a foot chase ensued.

Police are asking for your help in locating the driver of a newer model silver car that was involved in a hit and run that left a pedestrian in the hospital in critical condition. The accident happened Saturday night around 10:00 p.m. Witnesses say the car hit a pedestrian, stopped and then took off running a red light.

Police are searching for a car that was described as either a Cadillac or Ford with front end damage. The car likely has a broken windshield and headlights. According to the Orlando Sentinel a man involved in a street race in a stolen BMW is still on the run from police. The stolen car was flipped over and wrecked while racing a Cadillac in Orlando. Authorities eventually arrested the driver of the Cadillac after finding a handgun and marijuana inside the car. He was arrested on weapon and drug charges.

The driver of the Cadillac picked up the other driver following the wreck and dropped him at an undisclosed location according to witness reports. At this time the man has not been caught. Police have not released any names in the case nor have the given a description of the man they are looking for.
