Although the Punta Gorda Police Department is the only municipal law enforcement agency in the county, they rack up their fair share of arrests. The Charlotte County Sheriffs Office is the primarily law enforcement agency in the county and along with the Florida Highway Patrol, they are responsible for traffic enforcement.

The Florida Highway Patrol has several trooper that are assigned to Charlotte County. Aside from those troopers, the Florida Highway Patrol will often use a fix winged aircraft in an attempt to issue as many speeding ticktets as possible.
