Marion County

 Marion County, Florida is located in North Central Florida.  The county is patrolled primarily by the Marion County Sheriffs Office.  In addition to the sheriffs office, there are city police agenices in Belleview, Dunnellon and Ocala.  The Florida Highway Patrol is the agency that is primarily responsible for traffic enforcement within the county.  In 2007 law enforcement agencies in Marion County issued over 30,000 moving violations.  Over half of those citations were given to motorists for unlawful speed.  Many of those violations occurred on the interstate and were issued by the Florida Highway Patrol.  The Florida Highway Patrol has a special aircraft unit and they are constantly working aircraft enforcement on interstate 75.  The Florida Highway Patrol also issues citations with radar and laser guns.

Law enforcement in Marion County issued and/or arrested over 9,000 persons for criminal traffic violations last year.  A majority of those citations were issued for no valid driver's license in violation of Florida statute 322.03 and driving while license suspended in violation of Florida statute 322.34.
