Florida Highway Patrol Vehicles in front of the Polk Courthouse in Bartow, FloridaPolk County, Florida is located in central Florida and has a population over 500,000.  The largest city in the county is Lakeland, home to Publix supermarkets.  Law enforcement in Polk county wrote just shy of 80,000 moving violations last year.  Most of these citations were for unlawful speed, and half of those tickets were written by the Florida Highway Patrol.  Other than speeding tickets, police in Polk County wrote over 10,000 red light tickets and over 5,000 careless driving citations.  

Deputies, police officers, and Florida Highway Patrol troopers wrote almost 20,000 criminal violations last year. Not unlike other Florida counties, sixty-seven percent of all criminal violations written last year were for no valid driver's license in violation of Florida Statute 322.03 or driving while license suspended in violation of Florida Statute 322.34.  Law enforcement in Polk County also arrested 1691 motorists for driving under the influence (DUI).  There are several city police departments in Polk County, including Auburndale, Bartow, Cypress, Davenport, Dundee, Eaglelake, Fort Meade, Frostproof, Haines City, Lake Alfred, Lake Hamilton, Lakeland, Lakewales, Mulberry, and Winter Haven.
