Speeding Tickets
Summary of “Speeding Tickets”
Attorney David Haenel explains the different methods used by law enforcement in issue traffic citations.
Most people, when they call our office, have received some sort of citation.Speeding tickets are the most common. There are several different methods used by Florida Law Enforcement when it comes to issuing a citation for speeding. You can be ‘paced’, which means the officer was behind you and he paced your vehicle based on what he or she was seeing on their speedometer. You could have been pulled over by radar or laser. In that case, the officer is alleging that their laser or radar gun clocked you going a particular speed.
We also have aircraft in use in Florida. The aircraft is usually employed by a local law enforcement branch or by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). What happens is there are white lines on the highway that are spaced about a quarter mile apart. As you drive between these two white lines there is a pilot in the air who is operating a stopwatch. The pilot clocks you between the two lines. If you are speeding, he then radio’s down to an officer on the ground who pulls you over. Many times people call our Law Firm and ask how this is possible.
If you employ the Law Firm of Finebloom & Haenel to represent you on your traffic ticket we will gto to court for you. We will make sure their radar, their lasers are calibrated properly. We will make sure the Florida Highway Patrol trooper or whatever law enforcement officer is operating the speedometer that clocked you, that it was also calibrated correctly.
